I know its been quiet on here for a few weeks. As most of you know I took a 2 week, which turned into a 3 week social-media fast.
Read my thoughts on this here. I am challenging EVERYONE to take a break from social media. I’m not even sure how long I will be back. It’s been refreshing having a break from it all.
A few weeks ago, Graham and I were in Wilmington for a couple days visiting a long-time friend who’s husband is stationed there while he was gone for training. I figured it was a great opportunity for some girl time. And it was! She has a 4 month old little girl who is a doll. We relaxed, ate good food, went to the beach for a little while, and walked around the waterfront in downtown Wilmington. She was a great host and I can’t wait to do it again! It’s amazing what a difference a few years makes in our lives. Seems like yesterday I was watching her get married and now we both have kids. Life is crazy.
I came back for a week and worked and then we headed out to Connecticut with the whole family for almost a week. We, and by we I mean Dave, drove through the night (13 hours) on a Friday night and got in early Saturday morning. It is always great to get away and see family. I was hoping to see the leaves in full color and on the drive back I got my wish! Dave and I were able to go to Boston for the day since it was only a little over an hour away. We took our bikes and biked the Freedom Trail which has Paul Revere’s house, the Old North and the USS Constitution, also known as Old Ironsides. Biking is the way to go if you want to see Boston. A little tricky with the walking pedestrians and busy roads but other than that it was a success. 🙂 The weather was perfect long-sleeve-and-jeans weather. Not too hot, not too cold.
We also went to the Boston Red Sox baseball game that night. WE WON! Apparently they haven’t had a great season (you can tell I follow sports) but that night they played great! It was a great night for baseball…except for the 13-year old teenager who decided that chewing tobacco was a good idea and proceeded to throw up in front of us. I had watched him ever since he and his friend sat down (these were not his seats) and saw the decline in his demeanor as he went from feeling bad to worse over the course of 30 minutes. Thankfully it was towards the end of the game and we were winning by a few runs so we didn’t miss much when we bolted after he started…ya know.
Disgusting. All I have to say is that I am glad I wasn’t the group sitting in front of him.
We got back to Greenville late this past Friday night and I had 2 weddings to do hair and makeup for this weekend. Both we were a success and probably the last wedding weekend for me for 2014. It has been a great year. I can’t believe it is over. I was telling Dave last night that I couldn’t believe it’s already October. I was just planning out my year and scheduling all these weddings in my calendar! Now for a little R&R to prep for next year.
Personally, life has been
crazy busy. Crazy kind of makes it sound like things have been bad. Things have actually been going smoothly. Just a lot in the works. I have been crafting a lot, we made a trip to Ikea to make our breakfast nook into a craft/office area (more on that in the next post) and working on my jewelry business.
I opened an Etsy shop about a month ago to sell bracelets I have been making. It has been going really well and I am working on a new jewelry design with plans to sell wholesale to retailers. I hate to be bored, can you tell? 🙂
I love to work. And I love working for myself. Sometimes this means brainstorming and working on a Sunday night. But I am thankful to be my own boss and make my own limits and goals.
I am still cutting hair also. I don’t think that will ever stop doing that and I am so thankful for that. Graham will be starting school 3 days a week this week. Can I get an “Amen”?! Momma is happy to have some time to get stuff done without the guilt of worrying about Graham getting enough attention. He can’t wait to go to school either and play with “the kids”, as he calls them. 🙂 He does really well playing by himself but now that he is getting older he is getting into everything and pushing boundaries. He does this the most when I am working. Challenging is an understatement. But God has given me grace and given me a really understanding husband when I start to fall apart.
But all in all things are good and we are waiting for our foster care paperwork to get approved. No one seems to be in a hurry. I am okay with waiting a few more weeks because reality has set in that we will be a family of 4 very soon and it kind of freaks me out. But people do this all the time, right? *Deep breaths* I feel a little relieved that Graham will be in school so I can have those days just me and the baby (?) and nothing else to worry about. And I can make my own schedule so I can see where I need to adjust my time and energies. I feel like I have been nesting…which is weird since I am not pregnant. Ha! But I guess my mind knows that times are changing so I am squeezing in as many DIY projects as I can!
Today I am making a fall wreath for the front door. More on that in a later post. It is October 1st this week so I think it now an appropriate time to get in the fall spirit. And I think the first day of fall was last week? Idk, I don’t like to keep up with this season, obviously. Graham is napping and I am going to get some housework done. My house is wreck. I mean….woah. But today I am thankful for Monday, my day off, and a husband who works hard on these Mondays.
